A closely observed biographical study of German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel starring James Mason.
Rommel’s AfrikaKorps were peerless, and his tactics and humane attitudes earned him the respect of both his own and enemy troops alike. However, as he triumphs again and again against the Allied forces, he grows aware that the Fuhrer – to whom he has sworn allegiance – greatly overestimates his skill against overwhelming odds.
After returning home to recover his failing health, Rommel discovers that his forces in North Africa have been wiped out due to Hitler’s refusal to withdraw. Growing disillusioned with the Nazi way, it becomes clear that the Germany he knows and loves is rapidly disappearing. Soon, he finds himself drawn into a conspiracy to assassinate the Fuhrer.
